Why Getting Out There Matters More Than Ever in The Age of AI

HPMKT proved it: Real-life connections are the key to innovation.

A conversation between Jenna Gaidusek, Founder of AI for Interior Designers™, and Julia Reinert, Founder of The Lifestyle Historian™

Based on Podcast Episode 63: The Power of Real Life Connections

I discussed this topic on a recent podcast, but it is such an important one that I felt I needed to write it down as well. In a world where so much of our learning and networking happens online, it is easy to forget the power of showing up in person to trade shows, conferences, panels, and events. High Point Market was another reminder that these human connections are irreplaceable.

HPMKT: Giving The Opportunities for Deeper Connections

Attending HPMKT this year was both energizing and grounding. The market itself felt quieter than usual, but that made the one-on-one conversations even more meaningful. Seeing friends I had not connected with in months, colleagues who are also designers or business coaches, and people from firms of all sizes reminded me that this industry thrives on relationships.

The AI Day Experience

One of the highlights for me was AI Day, hosted at Feizy Rugs. This intimate, hands-on event allowed designers to explore AI tools, experiment with workflows, and learn practical ways to integrate technology into their work. The energy in the room was tangible as people swapped tips, explored apps, and laughed through experiments. We worked through apps, notes, and transcription systems together, turning market chaos into organized, actionable insights. We also had the chance to connect in person with our sponsors, Daniel House Club, Mydoma by Studio Designer, and The Lifestyle Historian, sharing updates, insights, and catching up in a way that only happens when you’re all together in the same room. Moments like these prove that education is not just about absorbing information online. It is about doing, sharing, and collaborating in real time.

Sharing Knowledge at Howard Elliott

Another incredible opportunity was presenting the Lunch and Learn to a packed Howard Elliott showroom! Standing in front of designers, sharing insights, and sparking discussion reminded me how powerful face-to-face learning is. The ability to ask questions and receive immediate feedback is something virtual learning cannot replicate.

Panels, Recognition, and Celebration

On Sunday, I joined Marie Cloud of Indigo Pruitt and Marco Messner with MazingXR , continuing conversations about innovation and design. Later that afternoon, I attended the Sip & Flip event hosted by Designers Today, where I was honored to be recognized on the 40 Under 40 Power List. Experiencing the excitement of these in-person celebrations reinforced how special it is to share achievements and inspiration alongside peers who share the same passion and drive.

Why Being Present Matters

Seeing products up close, hearing the stories behind them, and discussing them with others in real time cannot be replicated virtually. From walking through showrooms to jotting down insights for client projects to spontaneous conversations that spark new ideas, these moments remind me why being present matters.

Looking Ahead to 2026

I am excited to host more AI Days and in-person events in 2026. I love the flexibility that virtual events provide, and I hope many of you take advantage of those opportunities; however, what truly excites me is all the in-person connection, the energy, and the conversations.

These gatherings are not just about trends or technology. They are about people, relationships, and the sparks of creativity that only happen face-to-face. From KBIS to the Vegas winter market, spring HPMKT, and beyond, I cannot wait to see familiar faces, meet new friends, and share more unforgettable moments. It is the human connections that fuel our work, our inspiration, and our joy in this industry.
